The eye wearied of gazing at water…

An early version of the landscaping with added water… There’s a lot of work to do to get it right, but it’s a start. Images with and without features for comparison.

First image is a river running between the Lith of Mitharg and down the Plains of Gard. The second is a river running through the Plains of Blood.

Why is the solstice important…?

Drew has posted an update on the progress of the Official Novel… on his blog. I don’t have much to say that he hasn’t covered, apart from: I’ve been following the progress with the updates as they’ve landed on my computer, and I think we’re in for a treat. I’ve been really enjoying it so far…

JugiPaint and Midnight

Jure, who drew the graphics for The Lords of Midnight and Doomdark’s Revenge remakes, not to mention all the illustrations from the Novellas and often displayed here, develops a graphics package called JugiPaint. So every now and then he throws me something he has drawn using it while using Midnight as his inspiration.

Fallen trees and stray boulders made a mountain range of the forest floor

Screenshot 2016-01-14 19.55.13While I’ve been looking at the data for The Citadel, and putting it in a editable format, I thought I’d make available the data for The Lords of Midnight and Doomdark’s Revenge. The zip file includes a JSON file for the database structure and a JSON file that can be loaded into TILED.

I’m pretty sure that this is the exact same data that has been released with the game, however I can’t be 100% sure due hacks I might have done in code at the 11th hour!

30 Years Old

In 1984, Mike Singleton and Beyond released The Lords of Midnight. It’s hard to find an exact date, review copies were starting to appear with the Weekly Magazines toward the end of May, and the Monthlies seemed to have it in their June or July edition. On that basis, 1st June seems a good as date as any to celebrate 30 years.

So, Happy Birthday The Lords of Midnight!!

As part of that celebration, I have reduced the price of The Lords of Midnight and Doomdark’s Revenge across all formats, for the whole month. So if there is a version you haven’t got get…

I believe that will be also running a promotion this month.

Also, if you want some original nostalgia, why not check it out using Spectaculator on iOS, Android, Windows. Or there is The Lords of Midnight:8 Bit on Android.

Or if you haven’t tried it Multi-User why not visit Midnight/MU.

From Bedroom to Billions – Mike Singleton – Help Needed

BEDROOMS_TO_BILLIONSAnthony and Nicola Caulfield of Gracious Films have been making a documentary about the games industry, titled ‘From Bedrooms to Billions‘ @FromBedrooms

‘From Bedrooms to Billions’ ‘A 90 minute feature length documentary film telling the remarkable, true story of the British Video Games Industry between 1979 – 1996. The film shows how the creativity and vision of a relatively small number of individuals allowed the UK to play a key, pioneering role in the shaping of the billion dollar video games industry which today, dominates the modern world’s entertainment landscape.

They originally contacted Mike Singleton for an Interview which he agreed to, but due to his health at the time was unable to do. To put it in perspective he’d just had a chunk of his jaw and tongue removed, and even by the time of his death he was not talking clearly, although close friends and family were able to understand him.

The only known footage of Mike was from a BBC interview for the program Get Set which was transmitted Saturday 28th May 1983.

Unfortunately, the BBC have long since deleted this VT!

Anthony and Nicola are trying to track down anyone who may have recorded this program, and still have it.

Of note, Ultravox and China Crisis performed on the show, and therefore it is likely to have been recorded for either of those performances.

If you can help, please get in contact.

Here is the full details of the show.
